OpenAI has teamed up with Hearst, one of the largest and most varied media companies in the world. This partnership aims to enhance both companies’ products by integrating Hearst’s extensive collection of newspapers and magazines into OpenAI’s offerings, like ChatGPT.

Announced on Tuesday, the collaboration will see OpenAI use content from Hearst’s reputable journalistic outlets, complete with proper citations and links, ensuring transparency and easy access to the original sources.

“Integrating Hearst’s trusted content will help us deliver engaging and reliable information to our users,” said Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s COO.

The partnership includes over 20 magazine brands and more than 40 newspapers, such as the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Runner’s World, and Women’s Health. This will provide ChatGPT’s 200 million weekly users with a wide array of lifestyle information, covering local news, fashion, home design, health, fitness, and automotive insights.

Jeff Johnson, President of Hearst Newspapers, highlighted the importance of professional journalism in AI, stating, “This agreement allows the high-quality, curated content from our award-winning journalists to enhance OpenAI’s products, delivering more timely and relevant results.”

The collaboration aims to provide users with trustworthy and engaging information. Hearst’s content will include direct links and citations to ensure transparency and easy access to the sources. “Our partnership with OpenAI will help us shape the future of magazine content,” said Debi Chirichella, President of Hearst Magazines. “This collaboration will showcase our quality writing and expertise as OpenAI’s products develop.”
