Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Nameservers

Let’s say you bought your domain from GoDaddy and are hosting with HostGator, which gave you the following nameservers:

ns1.hostgator.com

ns2.hostgator.com

Here’s how to change your nameservers in GoDaddy:

    Go to GoDaddy’s website.

Enter your login credentials to access your account.

    1. Go to Domain Management

From your dashboard, find and click on “My Products.”

Under “Domains,” locate the domain you want to change and click DNS or Manage DNS.

    1. Find Nameserver Settings

In the DNS Management page, look for the Nameservers section. It might say “Default Nameservers” or list specific ones, such as ns35.domaincontrol.com and ns36.domaincontrol.com (GoDaddy’s default nameservers).

    1. Choose Custom Nameservers

Click on Change next to Nameservers, then select Enter my own nameservers (advanced).

    1. Enter New Nameservers

In the fields provided, type in your hosting provider’s nameservers:

    Nameserver 1: ns1.hostgator.com

    Nameserver 2: ns2.hostgator.com

    1. Save Changes

Click Save or Confirm to apply the changes.

    1. Wait for DNS Propagation

Nameserver changes can take up to 24-48 hours to propagate across the internet, so it might take a bit of time for your site to start working with the new settings.

This example uses GoDaddy, but the steps are similar across registrars. Replace ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com with the nameservers provided by your hosting service.
